ESTABLISHMENT The Primary School Section of the Complex was established alongside the Junior High School in September, 2004 with a population of six pupils, three in each sex, right from the day the Complex was established, and handled by four teachers. By its establishment, the Primary School is the main feeding school for the Junior High School section of the Complex. For that matter, efforts are always made to fine tune and take the pupils through the mill in a special training fashion especially at the Upper Primary level which is the exit point to the JHS so that excellent results are guaranteed at the BECE. PUPIL ENROLMENT The enrolment grew at a relatively fast rate in the first year making the school one of the fastest growing schools in the Kumasi Metropolitan Area. By the end of the first year after its establishment, a reasonable number of pupils filled all the six stages bringing the population of the school close to three hundred pupils with only one stream in each stage. Presently, that is January, 2011, the numerical strength of the Primary School is 648 which is made up of six stages with three streams A, B and C in each stage except stage 2 which has only two streams, A and B. These pupils are accommodated in 17 well-ventilated classrooms with modern state-of-the-art teaching and learning aids. Admission is still in progress. The school is predominantly Ghanaian but foreigners, mostly from neighbouring West African countries and other European and North American countries, form about 5 percent of the pupil population. This demonstrates the multi-cultural nature of the Complex right from the basic level to the Senior High School. TEACHING STAFF The numerical strength of the teaching staff right from the inception of the school was four. This has grown significantly to twenty-nine by February, 2011, majority of which are university graduates and some are certificated professional teachers. They are being headed by Nana Gyimah Bimpeh and ably assisted by Mr. Daniel Omane Adjekum. One unique feature of teaching at the Primary School is subject teaching at the Upper Primary level where the experts teach French Language, English Language, Mathematics Integrated Science and the like in a professional and dedicated manner. These crop of staff are recruited based on merit and they perform creditably well to the admiration of their own pupils, parents, guardians and the authorities of the Complex. They have high professional ethical values which they exhibit in their classroom delivery, appearance and social lives. They do not relent in their guidance and counseling responsibilities as they critically and meticulously address the individual concerns of the pupils and nurture them well for their transition and graduation into the Junior High School stage. They always mark well with distinction in their approach to academic and social matters. Their togetherness and good sense of responsibility distinguish them as professionals of the first rank. They are loved by all. ACADEMIC FACILITIES The Primary is also a mixed-school which is both Day and Boarding. It has an academic- friendly boarding facility separately for boys and girls. Pupils, from ages six and above, can have access to and enjoy the ambience boarding facilities the school has. The school shares the excellent and efficient transport systems with the rest of the Complex, and on daily basis, Day Pupils of the school are transported to and fro every nook and cranny of Kumasi and its environs. The Primary School has excellent recreational facilities which the pupils enjoy during their off classroom activities, and which make their academic life so unique, progressive and rewarding. Pupils of the Primary School share other facilities such as the Infirmary, the Library, the Dining Hall, the Football pitch and the like at well- scheduled uninterrupted periods with the rest of the students of the other schools of the Complex. OTHER RELEVANT ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES OF THE SCHOOL The pupils of the Primary School, by the arrangement of the administration and the staff, engage in healthy and competitive inter-house and inter-class quiz competitions most often which make the pupils well exposed to diverse knowledge that boarder on culture, politics, religion, sports, traditional beliefs, aesthetics, medicine, commerce, language, creation, law and good human ethical values. Plans are underway to engage other schools in Quiz and Spelling Bee competitions to truly have a fair assessment of the academic prowess of the pupils as they benchmark their academic strength with other schools especially their perceived competitors. The periodic educational trips that the pupils embark on is an added advantage to their quest for richness in knowledge acquisition as they are always vividly exposed to real life situations which are unique in their establishment, eloquent in their practicality and educative in their understanding. You are always welcomed to the Primary School of Angel Educational Complex. |
